Billie R. Huggins

Billie R. Huggins, 76, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:30 A.M., Monday, May 17, 2004 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital in Pinckneyville, IL.
Billie had worked as a barber since 1955. He graduated from East St. Louis Barber School in 1947.  He began working in 1955 at Mac's Barbershop.  He was a member of Sunfield Baptist Church.  He was a member of UKC, AKC, Coon Hunters Club and President of Illinois Toy Fox Terriers Association.  He had judged dog shows since 1970 and had also judged saddle club horse shows.  He loved his dogs, cats and horses.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran of W.W. II and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was born July 18, 1927 at Pinckneyville, IL, the son of David and Grace (Ehler) Huggins.
He married Phyllis J. Woodside on October 26, 1963 at Tamaroa, IL and she preceded him in death on June 7, 1996.
He is survived by one daughter - Mitzi Stricklin and husband Jim of Pinckneyville, one son - Lee Caraker and wife Norma of Du Quoin, one brother - Donald Brooks Huggins of Tamaroa, one sister-in-law - Janelle Huggins of Tamaroa, aunts and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother - David Edward Huggins.
Funeral services were at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, May 20, 2004 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Rev. Raymond Baggott and Rev. Everett Freeman officiating.
Friends called from 8 A.M. until the time of service Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites were conducted.
Friends may make memorials to the Pinckneyville Hospital Skilled Care Unit.
